Re: Introduce Yourself to the Pillsbury Community!
Hi everyone!

I loe Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, and that's what brought me to the community; looking for new ways to use them in recipes.

I taught myself how to cook. I am disabled and retired so have a lot of time on my hands. Besides tending to my 3 year old Golden Retriever, I watch the Foodnetwork channel, and any other cooking shows on TV.

I can't think of the biggest time saver, as I don't need to save time. I enjoy cooking, trying new recipes so it doesn't matter how long it takes. I am a widow, so I just cook for myself.

I love onions, mushrooms, garlic, chicken and salmon so I always have these items on hand.

I am looking mostly for chicken breast recipes and salmon (skin on fillets) to use with crescent rolls.

I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone and sharing ideas.

(1) What brought you to the Pillsbury Community?

I have some questions I need answered about the altitude differences in the mixes.

(2) Who taught you how to cook?  Who do you cook for now?

I learned to cook Cajun and Italian from a Cajun fellow in Franklin Louisiana.  I cook for myself and my pitiful wife who only knows how to cook with salt and pepper.

(3) Biggest time saver in the kitchen for you?

I have a food processor that is a life saver for me.  It is a KA with all attachments.

(4) Name some top ingredients that are the most often bought (and most often used) in your refrigerator and cupboard

I have recently been diagnosed with Diabetes 2 so most often used and purchased are diabetic foods.

(5) Anything else you want to share!

I believe that is about all I have to share at this moment.  I recently survived an MRSA (in the lungs) attack that left me hospitalized for a month.  (VA for 14 days in a coma on Life Support) then I was transferred to an Infectious Disease Hospital for the final portion of the month of March.  This is the reason I watch my diet very close and use caution when purchasing food.  I also check the infectious disease rating of any medical clinic I go to through the CDC.

Re: Introduce Yourself to the Pillsbury Community!

(1) What brought you to the Pillsbury Community? Looking for a forum that focuses on the home cook more than than professionals.

(2) Who taught you how to cook?  Who do you cook for now? I learned how to a cook by watching my father, and by the basic necessity of having a working mother when I was growing up. If we wanted to eat before 7:00 at night, someone besides mom had to get dinner on the table. So, I started making simple meals when I was about 11 and have been cooking ever since. After cooking for a family of 4 for 20 years, I now cook for just me and my husband.

(3) Biggest time saver in the kitchen for you? My Santuko knife. For some reason I find it much faster to use than a chef's knife (or a food processor for that matter). Also my Kitchenaid mixer.

(4) Name some top ingredients that are the most often bought (and most often used) in your refrigerator and cupboard. Extra virgin olive oil, garlic, lemon, cheese (romano, parmesan, cheddar, feta, and swiss), pasta, pork chops/pork tenderloin, italian sausage.

(5) Anything else you want to share! I spent the first 17 years of my working life managing restaurants and would love to get back to that environment. My experience there was largely front of the house, so I don't consider myself a professional cook by any stretch of the imagination. Still, I feel like there must be a way to share what I know with a whole generation of people who never learned to cook. To that end, I'm finding create ways to use my love of "all things food". I recently landed a job as a cookbook reviewer at cheftalk.com, and am developing a business plan for providing personal, at home cooking instruction and general kitchen coaching.

Re: Introduce Yourself to the Pillsbury Community!

Greetings!

I made some roast chicken yesterday and I wanted to use the leftovers...so Chicken Pie came to mind and I'm going to buy the Pillsburry Crescent rolls on my way home to make it...after visiting this website and seeing all these great recipes, i was compelled to join.

My mother was a tremendous cook.  Simple, uncomplicated dishes from scratch.  She never measured, so when I began my interest in cooking, I would go over and write down what she told me.  I've been at it seriously for the last 20 years and I don't think I'll ever be as good as her, but I'm trying.  She was also a very "clean" cook and taught me the importance of "cleaning as you go".  I now cook for my parter of 32 years.

Biggest time saver?   "garbage bowl"...a salad bowl I line with a plastic grocery bag that I throw anything in while I'm prepping.,Tongs, citrus juicer, mini-prep food processor, blender, salad spinner, egg-slicer.

Extra Virgin Olive oil, butter, whole peeled garlic, 1/2 & 1/2, dry sherry, dried mushrooms, onions, carrots, celery, shallots, leeks, lemons and limes, lettuces, pillsbury crescent rolls, refrigerated pie dough, Soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, Oyster sauce, Hoisin sauce, canned chicken broth, boxed chicken broth, cream of mushroom soup, Knorrs vegetable dip, Onion soup mix, pasta, rice, pinto beans, lentils, great northern beans, bacon, smoked ham hocks, Italian parsley...spices, Thai curry paste, tomatillos, tomatos...Jello, pudding mixes...canned tomatos, tomato paste

Nice to be here, thank you for having me!

Re: Introduce Yourself to the Pillsbury Community!

Greetings Everyone,

I am new to the community, and happy to be here!

I have always loved to cook. I started cooking at a young age, helping my grandmother in the kitchen, and then my mother. Gradually I learned to cook not only from the women in my family, but also the cookbooks my mother collected, which were always fascinating reading to me.

I like to prepare good home cooked meals for my husband and I, our grown children, grandchildren, and friends, as well as organizations we belong to.

I am trying to prepare more items strictly from scratch. Years ago I used to be quite good at making bread from scratch, and I am going to start experimenting with that again. However, I still enjoy time saving casseroles and ingredients that make for an easy, quick meal.

Since our granddaughters do not live near us, but visit several times a year, I got the idea each time they visit, we will stage a little "event". They are set to visit in August and we are going to surprise them with a luau complete with tiki decor and grass skirts!!

Re: Introduce Yourself to the Pillsbury Community!

Hi everyone!

My name is Fran and I am from Pennsylvania, but originally from Italy.  Been here for over thirty years.

I came to Pillsbury community by accident really. I was searching for some recipes.

I learned to cook from my mother mostly, italian cuisine of course.  I cook for my family, husband and three children, one in college, so I don't get to cook for him much.

Biggest time saver for me is prep ahead of time.

Top ingredients in my kitchen are of course pasta, chicken.

I always look for new ideas and new recipes.  My favorites are desserts recipes.

That is about it!

Thanks
